The question is always the same: how much will my move cost? And the honest answer is that it depends on eight or nine things, none of which can be guessed over the phone without asking.
When someone quotes a fixed price without knowing the volume, the floor or the access, one of two things usually happens: either it's heavily padded to cover themselves, or on moving day extra charges appear that nobody mentioned.
We prefer a different approach: we tell you what really affects the price, you give us a few details and we give you a fixed quote in writing that won't change unless what you told us changes.
Here are the factors, ordered from most to least impact on the final bill.
Get a quote nowNot the size of the home, but what's inside it. One of two identical flats can have twice the volume of the other. It's the number one factor.
A third-floor flat with no lift can double the working hours compared with the same flat with a lift. It's the second most important factor.
Whether the vehicle parks at the door or there are a hundred metres to cover by trolley changes the total time. Key in old towns and pedestrian zones.
A move within the same village and one between provinces are nothing alike. Being local, we can price short journeys very competitively.
Whether you pack or we do. It's an item you can take on to bring the cost down, as long as it's done properly and on time.
Built-in wardrobes, large beds or bespoke shelving add hours. Best mentioned from the start, not on the day.
The end of the month and summer are when demand peaks. If you have the flexibility to choose a weekday outside the season, it makes a difference.
Furniture storage, items that need special handling or moves in two stages. They add to the cost, but at least they're added up front and not afterwards.
Booking with two days to spare limits your date options and forces you to rush what could have been planned.
The storeroom, garage and terrace always hold more than you think. If the lorry comes up short, a second trip is needed.
If the team arrives to open boxes and full wardrobes, you pay for waiting time. Packing yourself only saves money if it's finished.
Keeping quiet about there being no lift or the street being pedestrianised doesn't make anything cheaper: it just guarantees the price will change on moving day.
The quickest and most accurate way to get a price from us: send us a video walking through each room on WhatsApp, including the storeroom, garage and terrace. That lets us see the real volume without you having to calculate anything.
And add these four details: origin address and floor (with or without a lift), destination address and floor, approximate date and whether you need packing, dismantling or furniture storage.
With that information we send you back a fixed quote in writing. If something doesn't add up, we tell you beforehand: we'd rather adjust the plan than have a surprise on moving day.
And if the new house is delayed, furniture storage has no minimum term: you only pay for the months you use it.
